Environmental responsibility and the Doux Group


Energy management and optimization

To reduce energy dependence and limit the emission of greenhouse gases tied directly or indirectly to company activity, the Doux Group has implemented a policy of continuing improvement at all sites to reinforce energy efficiency:

  • Optimization of refrigeration installations;
  • Heat recovery for heating water;
  • Reduction of lighting time;
  • Etc.

In 2015, the Doux Group won first prize in the EDF “Innovative Energy” contest for an energy performance plan covering all company activities. This prize is awarded to companies and communities committed to controlling their consumption of electricity.

Water management and optimization

The management of water consumption, treatment and recycling is a daily concern for the Doux Group. A self-monitoring system has been implemented at all sites, where water is regularly analyzed.

Most of the Group sites have their own water purifying station. The Châteaulin plan has a station that is equivalent to one for a city of 160,000 residents. Purified water can be recycled for washing trucks and containers, for example.

Waste recycling

The Doux Group waste management policy aims to minimize waste and is part of an overall approach to managing activities that is safe, healthful and protects the environment.

The Doux Group develops partnerships for the treatment of organic waste with companies specialized in methanation, a technique that enables the production of renewable energy.

The Group promotes waste sorting and recycling:

  • cardboard boxes, recycled by specialized companies;
  • metals, placed in dumpsters on the sites for later recovery;
  • plastic bags, recycled by companies like Veolia.

Optimization of highway and sea transport

The Doux Group uses highway transport to ship feed to growers, deliver products to various distribution platforms and haul containers to and from trade ports.

The company strives to optimize truck loads and schedules by involving breeders in the transportation of poultry feed.

For exports sent by sea, the Group works on a just-in-time basis and also optimizes container loads. In addition, the company has signed an agreement with the Mediterranean Shipping Company, a world leader in container transport and a partner that is committed to protecting the environment.

Technological risks

Risk management is inherent to Group activity. The people concerned by risk are fully trained, and detailed crisis management procedures have been established for all areas.

Doux Group economic and social responsibility


A major employer

With over 2,200 employees, the Doux Group is a major player in French economic development, especially in Brittany, where it is one of the leading companies.

A major economic contributor in western France, the Group generates over 5,000 indirect jobs and represents 60% of frozen-food activity for the port of Brest and 25% of total activity.

Health and safety

The risk prevention policy implemented by the Doux Group includes a section on professional risk. All employees at all industrial sites are trained to avoid professional risks and follow safety rules tied to their functions.

The improvement of working conditions is an ongoing concern for the Group. Implemented internally for several years with the support of outside partners, this approach has led to a continued and significant lowering of work accidents and work-related illnesses.

Since 2013, the Group has invested over thirty million euros and has committed to an ambitious 110-million-euro investment plan over a ten-year period, corresponding to one million euros invested each year.

Priority to local suppliers

The Doux Group works toward long-term relationships with its local suppliers. Most of them are located in western France and have collaborated for many years with the Group.

The Doux Group has implemented an exclusive partnership with breeders, forming a unique integration model for the poultry industry. This model enables ensuring total quality and traceability for the entire production chain – from egg to plate – and maintaining a relationship of trust over the long term with breeder partners.
